Influential filmmaker, author, theorist and academic Laura Mulvey, one of the most important voices in feminist film theory, engages in a conversation revisiting questions of visual pleasure, desire and spectatorship that have shaped generations of filmmakers, critics and audiences. She returns to her pioneering concept of the “male gaze,” explores how cinema shapes perceptions of gender and power, and reflects on the enduring influence of moving images on the way we see and understand the world. The conversation is part of the Laura Mulvey programme curated by the Festival and Georgia Korossi (BFI Digital Production Editor, freelance curator and producer).
Moderator: Geli Mademli, film researcher/TIFF publications coordinator
The masterclass will be conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation into Greek.
