5th EVIA FILM PROJECT
23 JUNE → 27 JUNE 2026

Four friends from the city arrive at drive up the Appalachian Mountains. Louis has convinced the other three to go canoeing down an unexplored and, quite possibly, dangerous river. The two locals that will be driving the men’s cars to their destination down-river try to dissuade Louis from carrying out his plan. The first day is pure enjoyment, as the young men get the hang of the canoes and go down the first rough part of the river. However, on the second day, Ed and Bobby, who are ahead, stop for a little while along the forested riverbank, where there they are held at gunpoint by two backwoodsmen... The film was nominated for Best Film, Best Direction and Best Editing Academy Awards in 1972.

A contemporary western about a native farmer who lives and works alone in a farmhouse at the heart of a mountain forest in Northern Greece. For years now, he has been fighting with an expanding industrial monster digging up the forest, disturbing the lush flora and threatening his property. Yet, the greatest threat comes with the sudden arrival of his young son, after a twenty-year separation. They turn into enemies under one roof. Father and son confront each other head on, with nature as their only observer, a showdown that ultimately yields an unexpected redemption for both.

Two boys and a girl, archetypes on a paganistic journey in which nature guides the senses and emotions. Minimal dialogue, silence, sounds. Fear, freedom, instinct, desire, pansexuality and always the feeling that something’s looking down from above. Filmed using the video function of a digital photographic camera, imbued with the uncanny and packed with intense hues and violent forms, In the Woods is an existential fairytale red in tooth and claw. A film as elemental as stone, as water or the sky.
