Ten years ago, adapting existing material for television was relatively rare; today, everyone wants IP. But how do you actually turn a novel, film, podcast, game, format or true story into something very specific: a TV show? This masterclass looks at what makes a television adaptation different, how to figure out what you absolutely need to keep from the original, and what you have to change to make it work as a series. Using examples from very different adaptations, we will also simulate the development process and see how the exact same source material can end up as completely different TV shows.
