The 5th Evia Film Project, the green initiative of the Thessaloniki Film Festival, funded by the Ministry of Culture, unraveled in style on Friday June 26th, featuring the screening of the film Into the Woods in the presence of the director Angelos Frantzis, a splendid film night in the village of Rovies, unforgettable films at the open-air cinema “Apollon” of Edipsos, a one-of-a-kind children’s workshop, a yoga session by the sunset, and a fascinating open discussion.
Open Discussion Masculinity, Violence and Nature’s Revenge
The event titled “Masculinity, Violence, and Nature’s Revenge”, held at the Cultural Center “Melina Merkouri” in Edipsos, featured film director Tzortzis Grigorakis, film director Dimitris Kanellopoulos, actor-filmmaker Vangelis Mourikis and film director-producer Elina Psychou. The panel of speakers explored how nature and its depiction in cinema mirrors gender roles and the collapse of human relations. The event was moderated by Nektarios Sakkas, Coordinator of the EFP5 Open Discussions.

Film night at the central square of the village Rovies
On Friday June 26th, at the square of the village Rovies, a film night featuring treats from the village’s taverns and the screening of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park (1993), one of the biggest box-office hits in the history of cinema, threw the audience into raptures. The film will also be screened on Saturday June 27th, at the open-air cinema “Apollon” in Edipsos, at the closing ceremony of the 5th Evia Film Project.

In the afternoon of Friday June 26th, the screening of the film Into the Woods (2009) by Angelos Frantzis was held, in the presence of the director, at the Cultural Center “Melina Merkouri” in Edipsos. The director and the audience were welcomed by the Festival’s Head of Programme Yorgos Krassakopoulos, whereas film director Angelos Frantzis laid down the particular features and the special traits of the film’s production, shooting and distribution.

Children’s Workshop Creating Our Own Forest Superheroes!
In this creative workshop, children are invited to imagine and design their own superheroes inspired by the forest and the natural world. Workshop facilitator: Vasileia Vaxevani, storyteller and head of educational programs at the Athens Comics Library. The workshop was curated by Comicdom and the Athens Comics Library.

Film screenings in Edipsos
The screening of the film Tarzan and His Mate (1934) by Cedric Gibbons was held on Friday June 26th, at the open-air cinema “Apollon” of Edipsos, featuring legendary star Johnny Weissmuller. The screening was presented by the Festival’s Artistic Director Orestis Andreadakis and film critic Christos Mitsis. The screening of the famous horror film Friday the 13th (1980) by Sean S. Cunningham came up next, presented by the Festival’s Head of Programme Yorgos Krassakopoulos.
