What constitutes as personal data

According to the law, personal data constitutes any information that concerns an identified or identifiable natural person (“data subject”), such as full name, e-mail address, TIN, etc. The term Identifiable is legally defined as the natural person whose identity can be verified, directly or indirectly, through reference to an identifier — such as name, ID number, location data, linear ID recognition (IP address, e-mail, etc.), or through one or more factors that are characteristic of their physical, physiological, genetic, psychological, economic, cultural, or social identity.

 

What is personal data processing

Personal data processing is any action or sequence of actions carried out, with or without the use of automated means, on personal data such as the collection, registration, organization, arrangement, storage, customization, modification, retrieval, information retrieval, usage, transmission to third parties, dissemination, correlation, combination, restriction, deletion, and destruction of personal data.

 

What personal data do we collect and for what purpose?

a) Browsing Data
When visiting and navigating on the Festival’s website, the users’ Internet Protocol address and login details are automatically registered. However, the identifiable information of the user’s physical identity is not disclosed — these details are used exclusively, and only for statistical purposes to measure the performance of our website. In addition, the cookies, which you have given your consent to process, are collected. Processing of data is undertaken in order to give you access to the information on our Website.

b) Newsletters
When giving your consent to receive newsletters, we use your e-mail address to send you regular updates on the objectives, activities, and services of TIFF — as well as on our programme of events and film screenings in the cinema theatres organized by TIFF. You can withdraw your consent at any time.

c) Contact Form
When using the contact form to communicate with our website, we will receive your e-mail address, with your consent, so that we can contact you.

d) Online Store
With your registration to TIFF’s webpage, you can participate in; e-commerce activities by our provision to you -with your explicit consent- of product payment services and/or services that you have acquired, using payment platforms that have been appended for this purpose.
For the purchasing of movie screening tickets using a third-party electronic platform, it is required to provide us with the necessary personal data for the online booking.
When purchasing products and completing orders on our online store, we collect and process the following information: a) full name, b) address, c) email, d) telephone no., e) fax no. to complete the order, whereas when requesting the issuing of an invoice, we additionally collect the following data: a) registered name, b) TIN, c) profession.

e) Eventival
Through the Eventival platform we collect the necessary data for organizing each Festival, such as contact details, information regarding the films’ crew and key team members, accreditations and tickets and the participation of guests in the individual activities of each event.

f) Volunteer Programme
In order to participate in the volunteer programme of the Festival, it is necessary for the interested parties to submit an application using the following personal data: a) Full name, b) father’s name, c) mother’s name d) address, e) profession, f) e-mail, g) copy of ID card or passport.

g) Internship Programme
To apply for an internship position, it is required to apply with a CV, which contains the following personal data: a) Full name, b) address, c) telephone no., d) e-mail, e) university degree f) knowledge of foreign languages, g) work experience.

h) Photographs and video
We collect image and audio data when taking photos and videos at our events, which are sometimes also displayed on our website and social networking services.

 

Legal basis for the processing of personal data

The legal basis for the processing of personal navigation data is article 6 para. 1 item f of the Regulation. The data is necessary for the operation of our website but also for its optimization, as well as for us to ensure the security of our information systems.

As for the personal data we collect when registering to our newsletter, filling in the contact form, participating in the events promoted through the Eventival platform, applying for the volunteer programme and the internship programme, as well as when taking photos and videos, the legal basis is the free consent of the subject, after being informed.

Finally, the basis for the processing of the data necessary for the online purchasing of a ticket, as well as for purchases from our online store, is the contract drawn between TIFF and the customer for the provision of all relevant services.

 

Data Recipients

The personal data of visitors and/or users of the services provided on our Website are not being transferred to third-party recipients — except for the case, where you provide your consent for this purpose, or for the establishment, exercise, or support of legal claims, or, if necessary, for the compliance with our legal obligations.

The personal data concerning visitors of the Website and/or users of our online services are collected and maintained for the necessary time and then they are erased.

The Thessaloniki International Film Festival offers a number of internships to qualified candidates interested in attaining knowledge related to the activity of a cultural institution of TIFF’s standing. Successful applicants will get the opportunity to gain insight into the daily functions of a cultural organization and experience and understand the philosophy of the Festival’s various events, services and programs in the areas of cinema, culture, and education.

Internships are available throughout the year for all Festival departments at the organization’s seat in Thessaloniki and at the Festival’s offices in Athens.

Candidates must possess strong written and oral communication skills in the English language, coupled with computer skills and the ability to work in a flexible and fast-paced environment. Priority will be given to university students.

All applicants will receive a decision regarding their application 30 days before the start of the internship period they applied for.

Ticket Regulations

 

€30 Ticket Package for 10 Screenings
The ticket package is available exclusively online and is exchanged for 10 tickets. Applies exclusively to physical screenings. Does not apply to online screenings.
A zero-value online ticket is required for entry. Tickets issued using screening vouchers are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. The package cannot be used for opening / closing ceremonies and special screenings.

Tickets to Kids Love Cinema Screenings cost €3.

 

Immersive / VR
Ticket price: €3 for each screening, €14 package for the 8 films in competition.
Screenings take place daily from 13:00 to 21:00 throughout the duration of the Festival. Tickets for the Immersive screenings can be purchased exclusively at the screenings space.
Screenings are in English or with English subtitles. Accreditations and screening invitations apply.

 

Accreditation
Accredited guests have free entrance to screenings. A zero-value online ticket must be issued using the accreditation code. The ticket and accreditation card must be presented on entry to the screening. Tickets issued with an accreditation card are strictly personal, non-refundable and non-exchangeable. The Festival has established a 10-euro green fee (a three-euro fee applies to holders of FILM SCHOOL badges) for its accredited guests and pledges to channel the amount collected for the enhancement of sustainable actions already put into motion.

 

Invitations
To use a festival invitation, you must issue a zero-value online ticket. Tickets are issued exclusively online using the code on the invitation. Matinée Screenings
The Thessaloniki International Film Festival in collaboration with Aegean Airlines offers free tickets to Festival screenings starting up to 15:30, to students, the unemployed, parents of large families, and persons with disabilities. Applicants will receive a free package of five (5) tickets on presentation of the appropriate documentation (Greek academic ID or ISIC card / recent unemployment certificate valid for 30 days from date of issue or proof of unemployment renewal or digital unemployment card / large family status card / police ID card / Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization disability card or Civil Disabled Persons Travel Card or certificate issued by KEPA Disability Certification Center / ASYE / ANYE / AAYE Armed Forces Health Committees or disability parking card or digital disability card). Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
The free package of five (5) tickets is exclusively issued by ticket office 1 at the Olympion.
A zero-value ticket must be issued online for each screening.

ACCESSIBILITY
The venues Olympion, Pavlos Zannas, Tonia Marketaki, Frida Liappa, John Cassavetes and Stavros Tornes are accessible by disabled persons. For yet another year, the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, with the support of Alpha Bank have ensured full access conditions to the festival. Interventions on the built environment and one fully accessible film screening featuring audio description and SDH subtitles, aim to facilitate equal access to cinema for all.

Competition Sections

The 22nd Thessaloniki Documentary Festival will present three international competition sections.

Feature Length International Competition
Participating documentaries of over 70 minutes in length. Among them, up to three Greek documentaries will have the opportunity to take part, and to compete for the “Golden Alexander” and the Special Jury Award. The “Golden Alexander” Award is accompanied by a cash prize of 5,000€.

 

Newcomers International Competition
Participating documentaries of over 50 minutes in length, that constitute the first or second films of emerging filmmakers. Among them, up to three Greek documentaries will have the opportunity to take part, and to compete for the “Golden Alexander Newcomers” and the Special Jury Award. The “Golden Alexander Newcomers” award is accompanied by a cash prize of 8,000€. The Special Jury Award is accompanied by a cash prize of 3,000€.

 

Film Forward International Competition
Participating documentaries of under 45 minutes in length that experiment with the concept of form, examining documentary filmmaking through a radical prism. Among them, up to two Greek documentaries will have the opportunity to take part, and to compete for the “Golden Alexander Film Forward” Award. The “Golden Alexander Film Forward” Award is accompanied by a cash prize of 3,000€.

 

The FIPRESCI Awards
The International Federation of Film Critics FIPRESCI, which comprises of distinguished professionals from the field of film criticism, will present two awards: one for the Best Documentary from the Feature Length International Competition and one for the best Greek film that participates in the international festival program.

 

“Human Values Award” of the Hellenic Parliament
The television station of the Hellenic Parliament (Hellenic Parliament TV) presents its “Human Values” award to a Newcomers International Competition section film.

 

Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation Awards (ERT)
Within the framework of the 22nd Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, ERT will present its first award, which is accompanied by a 3,000€ cash prize, to the Greek production that will win the FIPRESCI Award. The Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation will present the “ERT – Thessaloniki Pitching Forum” Award, which is accompanied by a 2,000€ cash prize, to the best Greek project participating in the Thessaloniki Pitching Forum, which will be selected by the Forum committee.

 

Greek Film Center Awards
In the framework of the 22nd Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, the Greek Film Centre will award three prizes: A 3,000€ prize award to a documentary participating in the VR Competition, a 3,000€ prize award to a documentary participating in Agora Docs in Progress and a 3,000€ prize award to a debut documentary feature (min. 50 minutes) that premieres in the Greek Program.

 

Amnesty International Award
The Amnesty International Committee which comprises of experts within the field of human rights, will this year present its award to a documentary from the festival program with the hashtag #humanrights.

 

Fischer Audience Awards
Two Audience Awards for films over 50 minutes in length (one Greek and one foreign) and two Audience Awards for films under 50 minutes in length (one Greek and one foreign). All Greek films having their first public screening at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, either in the Official Selection (the International, Platform, or Screen to Screen programs), are all eligible for the Fischer Audience Αward for a Greek Film. All foreign films are eligible for the Fischer Audience Αward for a Foreign Film, except for those presented as part of the tributes.

 

Kids Audience Award
The «Kids Audience Award» will be presented to the film selected by the kids who will attend the Docs for Kids educational screenings.

 

Youth Jury Awards by the Students of the Thessaloniki Universities
The Youth Jury comprises of students of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of Macedonia and will be presenting the Best Film Award and the Special Jury Award. Eligible for these awards are the Greek films participating in the International Program.

 

The “Mermaid Award”
The Mermaid Award is an independent award presented by the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival to the best LGBTQI+ - themed film from the Festival’s official selection. The prize will be awarded to a documentary with the hashtag #LGBTQI+.

 

WIFT GR Award
The WIFT GR Award is presented by the Greek Chapter of WIFT (Women in Film & Television) to a woman filmmaker of a film selected from the official program of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival.

 

Greek Association of Film Critics Award (PEKK)
The Greek Association of Film Critics (PEKK) awards the Best Greek Film that is screened in the official selection of the 22nd Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. The decision is made by the General Assembly of the members that have attended the Festival.

 

The Agora Awards

Agora Docs in Progress
Presented to documentaries, at the final stage before competition, from the Balkans and the Mediterranean, are:

- the 2|35 Award (post-production services)
- the MuSou Music Company Group Award (post-production services for sound or original composition)
- the Greek Film Centre Award of 3,000€ to a selected film
- free accreditation to the Visions du Réel Festival and a three-day accommodation to Nyon, Switzerland in April
- the Neaniko Plano Award (film subtitling services)

 

Thessaloniki Pitching Forum
The Thessaloniki Pitching Forum is the newly formed TDF co-production and co-financing platform for creative and television documentaries, as well as for new media (virtual and augmented reality) documentaries, that are heading towards film distribution, TV screenings and other forms of artistic exposition.

This year, the following awards will be presented:

- the Thessaloniki Pitching Forum Award (2,000€)
- the ERT - Thessaloniki Pitching Forum Award granted to a Greek project (2,000€)
- the Mediterranean Institute of Cinema Award (MFI Script2Film Workshop), a Doc Lab Scholarship of 2,500€ and accommodation at Nisyros and Rhodes for the year 2020 to one of the selected projects
- the DAE – Documentary Association of Europe Award (counseling sessions and a free member subscription)
- the Aylon Productions Digital Services Award (digitalization of material by Aylon Productions)
- The Beldocs Award (accommodation and accreditation for the upcoming Beldocs International Documentary Festival).
