UNHEIMLICH I: SECRET DIALOGUE

In their feature length, non-narrative film Unheimlich I: Secret Dialogue, Katerina Thomadaki and Maria Klonaris appropriate the Freudian concept of “the uncanny” (Das Unheimlich) in an innovative work that crosses visual arts, performance art, theatre, experimental cinema, psychoanalysis, philosophy and feminist consciousness. The two artists draw upon their theatrical origins and their acquaintance with archaic rituals and Far East ceremonial theatres to articulate a new musical language of the silent film. The Super 8 film was restored in 35mm film by The French Film Archive (CNC), under the artists’ supervision and with the support of the J.F. Costopoulos Foundation.
