Film description
Afilmed diary on the legacy and importance of Ozu’s work, with clips from his films, interviews and meetings with the people he worked with and commentaries by Wenders. At the same time, a tour through modern Tokyo shows the city’s basic changes in the twenty years since Ozu’s death: the neon lights in the market, scenes in pachinko or pinball parlors, taxis with TVs, people playing golf or dancing rock-and-roll in public, children playing baseball... And an interview with Werner Herzog on the simplicity and purity of images, and on whether it is possible or not to find such pure images still in modern Tokyo.
