SAM ROMA – WE ARE GYPSIES

Ever since they first appeared on the map of human geography, the Wandering “Kings of the Road” have lived on the fringes of society, on the cusp of legality and on the borderline of social acceptance. The Greek Roma people love dancing and singing, know how to throw a party or organize a celebration, while at the same time they scrupulously observe their tribe’s customs. Survival is an everyday challenge for them, with their lack of formal education forcing them to live by their wits, but also often leading them to break the law. As we traveled to their camps and communities in Attica, Argolis and Elis, we succeeded in entering their previously inaccessible world. The Roma people received us warmly, welcoming us into their hearts and homes.
