Four years after Fidel Castro came to power, Agnès Varda decided to shoot a film about Cuba. As the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC) didn’t grant her permission, she brought back 1,800 photos in her suitcases and pulled them together in a delightful composition full of songs and music, where editing is closer to choreography.
