REVELATIONS: PARADISE LOST 2

U.S.A. 1999 130 Digital Beta, Color
Film description
With this follow-up to their 1996 "Paradise Lost", filmmakers Berlinger and Sinofsky return to West Memphis to re-examine the controversial story of the most notorious murder case in Arkansas history. When teenagers Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley were convicted of the brutal mutilation and murder of three eight-year-old boys, many people outside of Arkansas were left feeling that the only “crime” committed by the three misfit teens was listening to heavy metal and dressing in black. A support group has sprung up on the internet, attempting to raise awareness about the plight of the “West Memphis Three”. The film follows a number of these supporters as they attend a series of hearings for Echols, who is appealing for a new trial in an effort to avoid his death sentence. As the appeal hearings unfold over the course of 18 months, Revelations follows the ongoing reinvestigations of the case, and revisits the main subjects of the first film. In addition, the filmmakers also spent a great deal of time filming John Mark Byers, the stepfather of one of the murder victims (and the man who many believe may be the actual killer).
