Film description
In 1990, director Sergei Miroshnichenko made Age 7 in the USSR, followed seven years later by Born in the USSR: 14UP, with which he won an Emmy Award. The series, in which youngsters who were born in the Soviet Union are portrayed every seven years, is now resumed with 21UP.The people who are now 21 no longer live in their native country, but in Russia, Kyrgyzstan, as immigrants in Israel or even adopted (as a result of the first documentary) by families in the United States.Adopted, but homesick. This nostalgia emerges time and again in the interviews, together with pipe dreams, hope and despair. It turns out that their new freedom presents both opportunities and risks. While one person can now practice the once forbidden Islam, the other has abandoned all hopes of a job. Τhe interviews are intercut with outside shots of the young people’s immediate surroundings and extracts from previous episodes.
