The film explores the complicated relationship between Nicole, a middle-class counselor, and Angel, a troubled inner-city teenager she is trying to help. Angel’s problems might not seem to be overwhelming: He’s not mentally unstable, abusing drugs or in trouble with the law. But Angel’s conduct has led to his father throwing him out of his house. Nicole is also at a turning point in her life. Pregnant for the first time, she’s in a period of re-examination.As Angel seems headed for the streets, Nicole takes him into her own home until he can resolve his conflicts with his father.
