Friday, November 21st is the opening day of the Balkan Fund, an initiative of the Thessaloniki Film Festival for supporting the development of screenplays in Balkan countries. The 11 screenplay drafts that were selected by the Balkan Fund international jury will be presented at 11:00 at the City hotel, with the attendance of the Festival’s Director, Michel Demopoulos.
The jury is comprised of: Georges Goldenstern, Supervisor of the Cannes Film Festival’s Cinefondation and ex-Director of film appointment for the Arte channel. Gunnar Bergdahl, Director and producer, ex-Director of the Gothenburg Film Festival, Sweden. Leonard Crooks, Supervisor of the Glasgow Film Fund, England. Dunja Klemenc, Producer. Christina Kallas, Artistic director of the Balkan Fund, screenwriter, producer and professor at the Berlin Film Academy.
The first three drafts will be presented tomorrow at the City hotel: The Journey by Artan Minarolli (Albania), Judas’ Treasure by Maria Douza (Greece) and Seamstresses by Ludmil Todorov (Bulgaria). The proceedings of the workshop will be in English and open to all accredited professionals of the Thessaloniki Film Festival. 50 prominent distributors, investors and producers have also been invited to attend the proceedings. The cinematographers will have the chance to meet with the investors and discuss the possibilities of collaborations between them. The international workshop will close on Monday, November 24th, at Warehouse C, with the official presentation of the films that will be awarded with financial support by the Balkan Fund.
