As members of the Fipresci jury:
*Stratos Kersanidis (Greece)
*Necati Sonmez (Turkey)
*Anette Olsen (Denmark)
We appreciate the high quality of the selection which includes films of different approaches, styles and topics. This great variety of films made it a difficult task for the jury to make a choice. “Mothers of Life” and “Hush!” are just two examples of documentaries that have impressed the jury.
However we had to consider only one film from the international section and our choice is:
“Ford Transit” by Hany Abu-Assad for its efforts to give a ironic-humorous and analytical picture of the everyday life of Palestinians, structured as an unusual “road movie”.
For the Greek section the Fipresci prize goes to:
“The Way to the West” by Kyriakos Katzourakis for its treatment of a contemporary problem; the uprooting of people and its innovative integration of fiction and the poetic point of view of the main character.
