PHOTO EXHIBITION OPENING
#CEDEFOPPHOTOAWARD: YOUTH IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING
The photo exhibition “#CedefopPhotoAward: Youth in education and training” was inaugurated on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at the Cinema Museum of Thessaloniki (Warehouse A’, Port), as part of the 57th Thessaloniki International Film Festival, in the presence of TIFF’s General Director, Elise Jalladeau.
The exhibition is organized and curated by the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and Cedefop, the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (www.cedefop.europa.eu), located in Thessaloniki, Greece. The exhibition presents the winning and shortlisted photos of the competition #CedefopPhotoAward themed “Youth in education and training”, organized by Cedefop. In the competition, European citizens aged 18 to 30 were invited to share their education and training experience through a photo. The competition was organized in two phases: the first ended on March 16 and the second on September 11, 2016. It is worth noting that the photos will also be exhibited in Brussels during the European Vocational Skills Week (December 5-9, 2016).
The Cedefop Director in Thessaloniki, Joachim James Calleja, after guiding TIFF’s General Director, Elise Jalladeau, to the exhibition, thanked the Festival for the cooperation and hospitality, noting: “It is our honor to be hosted in the venues of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. As you know, Cedefop is constantly present in Thessaloniki in the last 20 years and we will continue our work in the future with the same dedication. What we do is propel young people to vocational training and employment programs, so as to improve their professional qualifications and skills”.
On her part, Mrs Jalladeau thanked the Cedefop team for their support and participation in the 57th Thessaloniki International Film Festival, saying: “We congratulate all winners of the competition. The themes we see in these photos are not only about vocational training, they also represent new ways of viewing issues that concern all of us”. Mrs Jalladeau also noted that the Festival is investing in education, since it has created and takes part in innovative educational programs for young people with the aim of promoting cinema education through film screenings, and showcasing the art of cinema as an educational tool with the assistance of new technologies. “We are very happy every year to see young people responding massively to these programs, since more than 25,000 students have enrolled in or attended so far”, she added characteristically.
