The 54th edition of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival will come to a close on Saturday, 9 November 2013, with the closing ceremony that will take place at Olympion, the Festival's historic seat. Actress Stefania Goulioti will take on the role of presenter.
The closing ceremony and award presentation will be followed by the screening of Nebraska, directed by American filmmaker of Greek descent Alexander Payne, who is the president of the international jury in this year's Festival. Mr Payne will attend the ceremony.
The black and white film - a tribute to Mr Payne's home state of Nebraska - is a tender road movie that focuses on the bittersweet relationship between a father and a son who drive together to Nebraska to claim the prize money of a dubious lottery. Bruce Dern stars in the role of the father, giving an excellent performance that was awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. The film conveys images from a little known America, recollections and truths presented through the touching personal journey of the protagonist.
The closing film, which is part of the TIFF Open Horizons/Special Screenings section, is one of the TIFF actions financed by the European Union - Regional Development Fund for Central Macedonia, 2007-2013.
