22nd THESSALONIKI DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL [5-15/3/2020]
TDF announces Agora Doc Market activities and submission deadlines
The 22nd Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, one of the most important in Europe, will take place March 5-15, 2020 and invites documentary filmmakers to submit their films in the Agora Doc Market and the Docs in Progress section. TDF’s Agora also presents the initiative Thessaloniki Pitching Forum, reinforcing the discovery of documentaries from the wider region. The projects that will be selected in the Thessaloniki Pitching Forum will have the opportunity to be presented to audiovisual professionals from around the world, while seeking co-financing for their completion.
Agora Doc Market
The Agora Doc Market, TDF’s industry section supported by Creative Europe Media, will be held March 7-14, 2020, during the 22nd TDF.
The Festival and Agora are happy to present the Thessaloniki Pitching Forum (deadline for entries: January 20, 2020, submission form: link), an initiative focused on developing documentaries. The most dynamic Pitching Forum in the region will accept entries for documentaries from Southeast Europe, the Mediterranean and the Middle East regions, while exploring the limits of documentary by inviting TV and creative documentaries, documentaries for children and new media projects (Virtual Reality or/and Augmented Reality, etc.). Awards include cash prizes and development scholarships.
In addition, the Agora Doc Market presents the Agora Docs in Progress event that will take place on March 11, 2020, during the 22nd TDF. The Agora Docs in Progress calls for documentaries that have completed 50% or more of film shooting to submit their work (deadline for entries: January 20, 2020, submission form: link), in order to find funding, sales agent and secure a festival premiere. Awards include cash prizes, post-production and sound services. The Festival, also, introduces a new initiative in the Agora Docs in Progress: four Greek documentaries will have the opportunity to participate in a closed workshop, where they will be guided by three prominent professionals from the international audio-visual sector, in order to improve and develop their projects.
Thessaloniki Pitching Forum and the Agora Docs in Progress focus on the following countries: Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, North Macedonia, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine. Filmmakers outside the focused regions with projects linked to the above-mentioned countries can also submit their projects by January 20, 2020.
Moreover, the Agora Doc Market video-library hosts a large number of documentaries produced within the last two years and gives the opportunity to filmmakers to present them to the film professionals (producers, sales agents, distributors, festival representatives, etc) who attend the festival. Agora cooperates with the online network for film professionals Cinando. Press and industry accredited guests will have the opportunity to access online a selection of films from Agora and the Festival’s program. Filmmakers can submit their films for Agora Doc Market by filling in the submission form Doc Market (link, fees apply) by January 30, 2020.
