59th THESSALONIKI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL || 1-11/11/2018
Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma in the 59th TIFF
The countdown begins for the 59th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (November 1-11, 2018) and it is with great pleasure that we announce that Alfonso Cuarón’s latest much-anticipated film Roma, winner of the Golden Lion award in the 75th Venice Film Festival, will be presented in Greece in a special festival screening during the 59th TIFF.
The Thessaloniki IFF is one of the few film festivals around the world that will host Roma’s limited theatrical release following other internationally celebrated film festivals in Telluride, Toronto, New York, Zurich and London, inter alia, before the film’s streaming in Netflix.
This event is an additional acknowledgement for the Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s role in the international film festival circuit, and of course a rare opportunity for the TIFF’s audience to enjoy on the big screen the acclaimed director’s masterpiece praised by film critics and audiences worldwide.
The film will be screened in Thessaloniki IFF’s iconic Olympion theatre, which is the festival’s historic headquarters located at the heart of Thessaloniki. The festival is currently upgrading the theatre’s sound system in order to comply with the high sound quality standards (Dolby Surround 7.1) that highlight the film’s sound design, thus offering a unique theatrical experience in 4K image quality, as well.
Inspired by the women of his childhood, Cuarón delivers in Roma a captivating semi-autobiographical black-and-white drama that chronicles one year in the lives of a middle-class family in 1970s Mexico City, amidst political turmoil and complicated personal relations.
