The International Doc Market, introduced in 1999, will be held in the Byzantium hall at the 1st floor of the Electra Palace Hotel at Aristotelous Sq. next to the Festival headquarters, providing a substantial space to its participants, outfitted with 30 digital booths for private viewing. The market, organized in cooperation with the Greek Public Television (ERT S.A.) and with the support of the Media Program of the EU, caters to television networks from European countries and a wide range of professionals from various parts of the world.
The Doc Market is fully digital: participants have the opportunity to watch documentaries without the use of DVD; all films are easily located in the digital library in each of the booths. Approximately 460 films will be available in this year’s Doc Market, including all the films that are screened as part of the 14th TDF official program.
Approximately 55 buyers will be attending from Europe, the USA and Canada, among them: Madeleine Avramoussis (Arte, France), Kathrin Brinkmann (ZDF-ARTE, Germany), Flora Gregory (Al Jazeera, UK), Anne Grolleron (Histoire, France), Marijke Huijbregts (Avro, Netherlands), Michael O' Meallaigh (TG4, Ireland), Francis Kandel (Canal+, France), Cynthia Kane (ITVS, USA), Luca Macciocca (RAISAT, Italy), Jenny Westergard (YLE TV, Finland), Jordi Ambros (Televisio de Catalunya, Spain) and Philippe Van Meerbeeck (VRT, Belgium).
DOCS IN PROGRESS 2012

The Doc Market will present for the first time this year a Docs in Progress section, much in the same manner as the Works in Progress of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival: 12 projects from the Balkans, the Mediterranean and Central Europe participate in closed sessions for Thessaloniki’s invited industry professionals, such as sales agents, distributors, producers and festival representatives; the participants will present and screen 5-8 minutes from their projects, aiming towards securing coproduction deals, funds for project completion, as well as deals for presales and distribution. The projects are:

MARKET TALKS
March 13-16, 17.30-18.00, Excelsior room at the Electra Palace ground floor
The Doc Market organizes for the first time this year 4 half-hour talks by professionals from different areas/professions in the documentary world: International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) Director Allie Derks (Netherlands), Jan Rofekamp, Head of Films Transit International (Canada), producer Peter Wintonick (Necessary Illusions, Canada) and Elpida Kallinteri, Head of Acquisitions at SKAI TV (Greece). The talks will take place in an informal environment and the speakers will share valuable advice and observations drawn from their extensive experience in the industry.
Allie Derks will discuss documentary film promotion in the international festival circuit, Jan Rofekamp will focus on sales and distribution and the importance of the first 10 minutes in a film in terms of its selection and success, Peter Wintonick on the system and network of co-productions worldwide and Elpida Kallinteri will discuss TV funding, as well as acquisition and negotiation processes for documentaries. Please note that only accredited Festival guests can participate in the talks. In addition to the talks, the Doc Market organizes a Happy Hour every day from 18.00 to 19.00 (March 10-17) in the same space, to further provide festival guests with further opportunity to meet each other.

The Pitching Forum – Docs in Thessaloniki, running since 2001 in collaboration with the European Documentary Network -a member-based organisation for professionals working with documentary feature projects- gives documentary professionals the opportunity to have their projects pitched to a panel of international financiers, commissioning editors and representatives of the international audiovisual media. The first 3 days focus on project development and polishing, under the guidance of the following industry professionals: Carmen Cobos - producer, Gitte Hansen - distributor, Kees Ryninks - producer, Jesper Osmund - editor, Christian Popp - producer, Audrius Stonys – director and Peter Wintonick - director/producer. The last 2 days are reserved for pitching.
