Shooting through the Periphery Round Table Discussion – Wednesday 9/11, John Cassavetes Theatre, 11:00 – 13:00
Andrei Tanasescu (Programmer, Toronto IFF & Romanian FF), Katriel Schory (Executive Director, Israel Film Fund) and Fenia Cossovitsa (producer, Blonde Audiovisual Productions) will discuss film production in their countries, Romania, Israel and Greece respectively. The discussion will center around and explore the fact that all three countries have in recent years -despite their small size and complicated social conditions- left a mark on the international film scene.

Seidl will screen film clips, analyzing how they were shot and connecting them to the rest of his work.
EXHIBITION
A World without Margins - Photography Exhibition by Spyros Staveris
4/11 - 4/12 - Opening: Saturday November 5, 2011, 18:00 – Thessaloniki Museum of Photography – Opening Hours Daily 11:00 – 22:00
Spyros Staveris has been one of the most distinguished magazine and portrait photographers in Greece since the 1990s. The exhibition, a retrospective of his work, reveals the less known aspects of his photography apart from his published work.
Staveris shoots anything and anywhere where life takes place: seedy music bars, the underground side of Athens, the religious festivals of the Greek islands, demonstrations and street happenings.
SIDEBAR EVENTS IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS
Looking behind the Images - Photographs and writings from America - Rainer Simon Photo Exhibition
2-11/11, Goethe-Institut Gallery, Opening hours: Mon-Fri: 10:00-14:00, 17:00-21:00
In 1988, DEFA studio filmmaker Rainer Simon shot The Ascent of Chimborazo, a film about Alexander von Humboldt, the founder of modern geography. That was the first time Simon traveled to South America, and the start of his passionate relationship with the continent and his many journeys there. The exhibition will include photographs and film screenings from many of his Latin American travels, as well as Simons’ writings about his experiences there.
Rrose Selavy ou Eros c’est la vie – Photography and video installations from students of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki Film Studies and Fine Arts departments
1-21/11, French Institute Gallery, Opening Hours: Mon-Fri: 10:00-13:00, 17:30-20:30
In collaboration with the French Institute of Thessaloniki
The goal of this exhibition is to promote the students’ work and artistic evolution during their studies. The title, taken from one of the works participating, is a direct reference to one of Marcel Duchamp’s pseudonyms, Rrose Selavy. The name sounds like the French phrase "Eros, c'est la vie" and can be found in various Man Ray photographs where Duchamp is dressed as a woman.
