EDN WORKSHOP & PITCHING FORUM
Documentary professionals from around the world are taking part in the EDN Workshop & Pitching Forum, organized by the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, in collaboration with the European Documentary Network (EDN) and with the support of the MEDIA European Program. The EDN - Workshop & Pitching Forum had its opening at the Electra Palace Hotel on Wednesday, March 16, and will run until Sunday, March 20, at the Pavlos Zannas Theater.
In his opening speech, TDF director Mr. Dimitris Eipides said: “You have both the experience and knowledge, so I am confident you will give your best. We have genuine expectations from this year’s forum. I also hope you have a chance to enjoy our Festival”.
Two themes were covered during the opening session of the EDN Workshop & Pitching Forum, which was coordinated by EDN director Hanne Skjodt: the production of film trailers and the content, structure and motivation behind films. This year’s EDN Workshop & Pitching Forum features 19 documentary proposals from around the world. The Pitching Forum hosts debates on the production and pitching of selected documentaries from around the world, in the form of intensive educational meetings and through pitching meetings open to the audience.
A masterclass titled New Markets – New Opportunities (personal marketing for directors) will be delivered on Thursday, March 17 (15:00-17:00) at AKMI ITV in the framework of the Docs in Thessaloniki Pitching Forum 2011. The keynote speaker at the masterclass, which is organized jointly by the EDN and the TDF, is Dan Shannon, marketing and distribution expert, who created ID Communications, a company specialized in the marketing of films aiming at niche markets.
For the third consecutive year, the Greek state television (ERT) will present the Doc on Air award to the best documentary proposal of this year’s EDN Pitching Forum. The award will be accompanied by a prize of 7,000 euros. The winner is decided by a jury consisting of specialists who evaluate the proposals participating in the Pitching Forum of Docs in Thessaloniki. The award ceremony will take place on Friday, March 18 2011 (19.30, Electra Palace Hotel).
