Retired Colonel Duplan is found shot dead in Paris.Army Lieutenant Galois in charge of the investigation on behalf of the MOD, receives from the killer the diary of Lieutenant Guy Rossi who served under the Colonel during the Algerian war of independence in 1956. The diary will reveal more than the murderer. It will expose the psychological and legal processes that change a young lieutenant into a torturer and bring back to the surface war crimes of the past committed with the silent approval of the civilian authorities, all in the name of a “war on terror”.
