GREEK FILMS 2004: Films and Documentaries

Greece 2004 81 35mm Colour
A small, broken video camera goes around from one person to the next, recording whenever it wants the lives of the people that hold it. An 18-year-old boy receives the camera as a birthday present and blocks it. Thieves steal it from the repair shop and so the camera’s odyssey begins. It will become the eyewitness of several strange stories in Greece, until it finds itself at some point at the Afghan-Pakistani border, the refugee camps and later at the bloody demonstrations against Globalization in Genoa, Italy. From there, it goes on to Spain and ends up in the UK. The journeys, the stories, the faces --sometimes perverse and other times innocent-- are captured on tape by the small video camera. In the film, documentary footage is intercut with dramatization which, making it hard to tell what is ‘true’ and what’s not. You can’t distinguish the actors from the real characters ‘acting’ their true story.
