He was born in Vienna in 1952. He is the director of numerous award-winning documentaries. Werner Herzog named Ulrich Seidl one of his ten favorite filmmakers and said about his film Animal Love: “Never before in cinema have I been able to look straight into hell.“ His first fiction feature, Dog Days, won the Special Grand Jury Prize at the 2001 Venice Film Festival. Import / Export, the first film he also produced, premiered in competition in Cannes in 2007. Currently he is working on two new projects: Paradise, a fiction feature and In the Basement, a documentary feature.
