Small moments follow in succession – drinking in bars, meeting up with friends, making nocturnal excursions to concerts. Meanwhile, Lionel has attracted the attention of a middle-aged woman, and several tentative encounters ensue. This general aimlessness is ruptured when Josephine‘s aspiring boyfriend decides to take a job overseas and move away. What his choice provokes is as surprising as it is cathartic, as father and daughter both realize that living – and loving – requires that they confront aspects of their past.

He is dreaming of Hollywood as he stages his own theatrical plays, until he’s swept up in student activism. Yehia succeeds in making his dream come true by winning a scholarship to study in the USA. No stranger to challenging conventions and taboos, Chahine features, among the many stories that intermingle, an interfaith romance between a Jewish woman and a Muslim activist and a homosexual relationship between Yehia’s wealthy uncle and a young British soldier, in the film.

Experimental Forum: BB-Χ: Hungarian experimental film and the Bela Balazs Studio
“...Those analytical, experimental works connecting to mine are inspired by animation, that is, the concentration of a longer time period on celluloid. Whereas each roll of my Anatomy is based on a still object. Solid objects, figures and faces are forced to move, thus revealing their true nature.”
Sebestyen Kodolanyi
Coupled with a score by Austrian “Sil Electronics” a.k.a. Susanne Brokesch, "Anatomy" is one of the latest classical experimental films to be produced at the BBS. Kodolanyi’s supreme craftsmanship as director of photography and his influences by the Studio’s older masters such as Janos Toth are visible here. His more recent work, both as conceptual artist/thinker and as filmmaker, shows a critical turn in his influences and creates great expectations for the future from one of the most informed BBS enthusiasts.

Experimental Forum: BB-Χ: Hungarian experimental film and the Bela Balazs Studio
In 1969, several BBS newcomers including Pinter, Body and Peter Dobai, published a declaration entitled “We want a sociological film group.” Their manifested aim was “to achieve cognitive development while making documentaries” and remained a central issue throughout the studio’s heyday, bringing about many thought-provoking documentary crossovers into the experimental film terrain. "Archaic Torso" blends philosophy and bodybuilding and the essence of documentary-making, and it becomes the most self-reflective chronicle of this effort. Peter Dobai did not continue with documentary pursuits at the BBS, nor professionally. Instead he turned his efforts to literature and scriptwriting, with great success.
