Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904), born in Greece to an Anglo-Irish father and a Greek mother was brought up in Greece and Ireland. He moved to the US when he was nineteen, and then to Japan in 1890 to 1904 teaching and writing. Including shooting Greece and Ireland, we will shoot Japan, Cincinnati and New Orleans, where he began his career as a writer, philosopher and poet, observing the world in an imaginary travelogue from 19th century America to contemporary Japan. The camera will act as Hearn’s own eye, which sees both past and future, focusing on his footsteps in various countries to examine the effects of 21st Century globalization in comparison with visions of Japan from his 19th century perspective.
