Fengjie, China, 2005. Painter Liu Xiaodong visited the Three Gorges area to create his oil painting series “Hot Bed”. Eleven local construction workers became the models. After the completion of the Three Gorges Hydro Project, Fengjie, with its two thousand years of history, will be submerged under the water. Bangkok, Thailand, 2006. Under the “Hot Bed” series, Liu Xiaodong invited eleven tropical women as the models for his next painting. Both cities have their own river running across the city center, moving forward and never turning back.
