28th THESSALONIKI INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL

The podcasts selected for the Podcast Competition section have their eyes set on the Best Podcast Award, accompanied by a cash prize of €2,000. In addition, all podcasts taking part in the 28th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, both from the Competition section and the Out of Competition section, are eligible for the ENS Louis Lumière — French Institute of Greece Award for Upcoming Audio Documentary Creator. The recipient of the award will have the chance to attend the 6-week Sound Documentary International Summer Programme hosted by ENS Louis Lumière, in France, addressed to young professionals of the audio-visual field (authors of blogs, podcasts, or any other audio project).
The three-member Podcast Jury of the 28th TiDF is composed of: Vicky Arvelaki (producer-director of historical documentaries-Head of the Crete Cultural Center), Mary Retsina (podcaster-advertisement announcer-travel content creator) and Giorgos Toulas (journalist-radio producer).

Vicky Arvelaki was born in 1980, in Krefeld, Germany, where she spent her younger years. She has worked for several years in television stations based in Crete as a director and hostess. She is currently working as producer and director of historical documentaries, and her works have been screened at international film festivals, schools and TV channels, mainly at COSMOTE History over the last few years. In addition, having teamed up with Cyclos Film she founded the Crete Culture Center, an institution that aims at promoting memory and everyday stories as a field of understanding and self-reflexion.

Mary Retsina started out her radio career from MAD Radio, where she worked as a producer for five consecutive years, before joining Hit 88.9, where she had a daily radio show for seven years. She also worked at the Radio Marketing of Sony BMG, collaborated with production companies, was a member at the editorial team of the TV shows Fotis & Maria Live and Me to deksi, presented and created projects such as Breaking Mad (Mad TV), 60 Minutes On Line (Skai TV), Slang Challenge και Problem Solved στο Netwix. Nowadays, she creates travel content for social media, hosts the travel podcast Pame Ligo (powered by Digital Minds) and collaborates as an advertisement announcer with major brand names both for the radio and the TV. Moreover, she is a Brand Ambassador the outdoor clothing company Fjällräven

Giorgos Toulas was born in Thessaloniki in 1966. He studied Political Sciences, majoring in Mass Media at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has been working as a journalist since summer 1988 in radio stations, newspapers and magazines. In 1989 he published parallaxi, the longest running free press in Greece, based in Thessaloniki. In 2010 he founded the urban interventions experiment “Thessaloniki Allios”, having carried out dozens of actions and initiatives of urban activism. As a radio producer, he has been working in the morning zone of 9,58fm of ERT ever since 1994. He is the author of the antiracist fairytale O Tsourekis pou ton elegan Elia, released by Epomenos Stathmos editions, and the short stories collection Makrines Geitonies, released by Polis Editions.
