EVIA FILM PROJECT
INITIATIVES
An innovative developmental environment-oriented program, Evia Film Project was launched in 2022, aiming to culturally resuscitate Evia following the devastating fires that hit the region and aspiring to render it a global-scale hub for “Green Cinema”.
Evia Film Project, which is actualized with the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, at the Municipality of Istiaea-Edipsos and the Municipality of Mantoudi-Limni-Agia Anna, is a platform for awareness-raising around the calamitous effects of environmental destruction and climate change, as well as a springboard for the rebirth of a desolate and traumatized region on both a symbolic and practical level.
At its three events, the Evia Film Project
- Organized screenings of films that focused on the relationship between humans and nature and the consequences of environmental destruction. The films were presented to the public by invited filmmakers. The 3rd Evia Film Project focused on water, our relationship with it and the lack of it.
- Evia Film Project and its Agora invited in the area hundreds of film professionals, producers, directors, actors, technicians and journalists and many distinguished guests from all over the world, who actively participated in all the actions.
- Hosted a series of open discussions and masterclasses, as well as a series of innovative actions, with a common focus on environmental sustainability and "green" film production. Students of the Department of Digital Arts and Cinema of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Psachna had the opportunity to attend the majority of the masterclasses.
- Conducted a series of workshops for children, focusing on the environment.
- Organized VR screenings of films with an environmental theme.
- Enabled audiences to enjoy engaging podcasts on topics related to the environment, nature and animals.
- Gave the opportunity to film professionals (locations managers) to get to know Northern Evia and its beautiful locations, which could in the future be locations for shooting films and film series. The guests of the Evia Film Project were introduced, with special tours and hikes, to unique locations in the area and were, also, informed about the disaster suffered by Northern Evia and the regeneration process of the burnt lands.

- Organized events on the organic relationship between gastronomy and sustainability.
For all the above actions, which were free for the public, we collaborated with all institutions and bodies seated in Evia. In this context, the Apollo open-air cinema at Loutra Edipsos, which had been closed for the last 25 years, was renovated and put into operation.
