The Last Showgirl

The Last Showgirl

TIFF65: Greek Premiere
Behind the glitz and the ever-shining lights of Las Vegas, Gia Coppola’s latest film gives Pamela Anderson the role of a lifetime. In The Last Showgirl, Anderson plays a dancer who, after 30 years on stage, must reinvent herself and her very existence when the show she’s been part of is finally shut down. The show must go on, but sometimes the curtain falls, and that becomes much harder to face when youth has slipped away and the once-blinding beauty has faded. With standout performances by Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Dave Bautista, the film delves into what it means to be a woman in an industry — and a society — that worships youth, building a tender, genuine, humorous, and piercing portrait of a surprisingly complex character, a community, and an era.
