Honeymoon

Medovyi Misiats

TIFF65: Greek Premiere
February 23, 2022, a small town near Kyiv. Taras (35) and Olia (32) spend their first night in their new apartment. At dawn, they wake up to the sound of explosions. They fail to leave the town on time, meanwhile, the Russian troops set up headquarters in their building. The couple finds themselves trapped in their flat with no electricity, water, or mobile connection. For the next five days, Taras and Olia will explore the black abyss of real intimacy between two people and face crucial existential questions in mortal danger. One of the few fiction films conceived and completed in Ukraine during the ongoing Russian invasion, it narrates a story about the raptures of history and the ruptures of life, born out of love and necessity. In the filmmaker's words: "Setting the film in Ukraine was also a very practical choice because a large number of Ukrainian film professionals lost their jobs due to the war or were mobilized into the army. It was our small contribution to the sustainability of the industry.”
