Thank You for Banking With Us

TIFF65: Greek Premiere
There are times when the letter of the law fails to deliver true justice. Noura and Mariam, two sisters, find themselves facing such an injustice when their father passes away before he can transfer a significant sum of money to them. According to Islamic law, his estate will be split in two, with one half going to the sisters and the other to their estranged brother—simply because he is a man. United by their shared sense of fairness, the sisters set aside their differences to stand up against a patriarchal system and their own fears, determined to claim what they believe is rightfully theirs. Infused with humor and tenderness, yet with a sharp political edge, Thank You for Banking With Us, in the hands of Laila Abbas, becomes a bittersweet film filled with tension, wit, and a poignant critique on female empowerment and the urgent need for change.
