New Dawn Fades

Yeni Safak Solarken

TIFF65: Greek Premiere
Set against the vibrant yet haunting backdrop of Istanbul, Akin roams the city streets after leaving behind a long journey through psychiatric clinics, seeking solace in the sacred monuments of the city. As he battles to regain his inner balance and piece together the fragments of his shattered life, he experiences moments of inexplicable ecstasy, where the boundaries of reason blur, and reality becomes fluid and uncertain. In New Dawn Fades, Gürcan Keltek delves into the complex fabric of mental illness as a social construct, urging us to question not only our understanding of madness but also our perception of cinema itself. Through breathtaking visuals and immersive soundscapes, the film weaves a symphony of ideas, psychology, and setting, exploring how our surroundings and circumstances shape the soul. As Akin’s mind spirals into supernatural realms, the film becomes a hypnotic reflection on the human condition – a profound cinematic journey that speaks in riddles yet resonates with sharp clarity for anyone who has ever felt lost in the chaos of existence.
