Three Days of Fish

Drie Dagen Vis

TIFF65: Greek Premiere
A father, now living permanently in Portugal with his new wife, and a son flirting dangerously with the label of failure, reunite for three days when the father returns to Rotterdam to settle personal affairs. Both have become used to a fragmented and distant relationship, where awkward goodwill has replaced a love that wants to be expressed but struggles to find a way. They wrestle with unspoken words and half-truths, trying to reach out to each other. This quiet, minimalist, bittersweet family drama resonates with its gentle touch, its measured storytelling, and its unpretentious view of family dynamics. The nuanced performances capture the delicate shades of a complicated bond, while the black-and-white cinematography offers both comfort and a soft embrace, enhancing this tug-of-war between tenderness and clumsiness.
