Hunting Daze

Jour de chasse

TIFF65: Greek Premiere
Nina, a young sex worker, joins a group of hunters residing in a remote cabin in the woods. Managing to become almost an equal member of this masculine microsociety due to her drive, she starts to experience a newfound sense of belonging. But their pack’s sensitive equilibrium is threatened by the arrival of a mysterious stranger, a black small time drug dealer. Shot in an exquisite manner, and intricately stylized, the film, both atmospheric and sardonic, dissects a series of topical social issues such as women empowerment, masculinity crisis, fear of Otherness and psychoanalytic repulsion, through the means only cinema can bestow. Investing in ambiguity and paying homage to Carpenter (by constructing a closed society which is threatened by otherness), this innovative parable extends the sense of suspense beyond the mechanisms of genre-cinema, reaching the innermost recesses of the human spirit.
