The Best of All Worlds

O Melhor dos Mundos

TIFF65: International Premiere
A group of scientists finds themselves at a standstill, debating whether they should issue a warning to the general public for a possible impending tragedy: a major earthquake which evidence suggest may strike Lisbon within 30 hours. However, everything is based on speculation, and if ultimately there is no earthquake, what will their culpability be in regards to the panic that will ensue? A room drama infused with the suspense of a psychological thriller, realistic filming and tense storytelling, The Best of All Worlds raises the question of what a scientist’s imperative is towards society at large, closely observing the tensions and the dynamics that emerge within a small group of experts under the unbearable pressure of a catastrophic scenario. Placing moral stances, ideological positions, and tempers under the microscope (pun intended), Rita Nunes’ second feature film calls upon the viewer to step up to the plate; What would you do if you were in their position?
