Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Upon arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, her father’s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s nonspeaking half-sister, Alma. Something feels off in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.

Tilman Singer

Tilman Singer’s film, Luz, debuted at the 2018 Berlin International Film Festival – shot on 16mm, with a modest budget of $100,000. Tilman brings to the screen a refreshing take on demonic possession, transforming it into both a psychological investigation of past trauma, and an unusual love story. Luz was released by Screen Media and has collected several accolades, including Best Feature Honors at the Milan Film Festival, a Horror Feature Jury Special Mention at Austin Fantastic Fest, and best film at Slash Film Festival in Vienna. Every January, Vulture puts out their Most Anticipated Films List and for 2019, Vulture gave Luz its number one spot: “Luz signals the arrival of a strange, exciting new talent in Singer.” In addition, Rolling Stone included Luz in its 10 Best Horror Films of 2019. Cuckoo is his second feature film.
