The Jolly Forgers

La fiancée du poète

TIFF65: Greek Premiere
Mireille comes back to her hometown and the family house she inherited. Her life changes when she decides to take in three tenants – three men who will brighten up her daily life and unexpectedly help her rekindle the flame of her long-lost true love. Now advanced in age and having accepted that not many surprises or thrills await her, she finds her life unexpectedly complicated by these new arrivals. A story of love and friendship tinted with nostalgia. A very sweet, charming, human, and optimistic comedy that, in a light-hearted (but never superficial) way, contemplates the essence of family in its purest form, beyond confines, prejudices, and stereotypes. With its lovable characters – each carrying their own delightful eccentricities – and its refreshingly positive outlook on life, Jolly Forgers paints a smile on your face that lasts long after the end credits roll. Cinema that loves people and believes in their ability to build families, always and everywhere, under any circumstances.

Yolande Moreau

A three-time César winner, Belgian actress and director Yolande Moreau was born in Brussels on February 27, 1953. She began her career with children's shows after training at the Jacques Lecoq theatre school. Agnès Varda noticed her on stage, in the show she wrote and performed, Nasty Business – Sex and Crime, and played the role of a woman who has just killed her lover. Varda gave her her first roles, first in a short film, then in her feature film Vagabond. Shortly after, she moved to the other end of the camera and co-directed When the Sea Rises. The film met with unexpected public success and won two Césars in 2005, for Best First Work and Best Actress. Yolande continued her acting career after this first experience as a director. She could be found in films by the great names in cinéma d’auteur, from Catherine Breillat to Costa-Gavras and Albert Dupontel. In 2013, Yolande returned to directing with Henri, which tells the story of an encounter between a restaurant owner and a woman with an intellectual disability. The Jolly Forgers is her latest feature.
