The Canadian response to the courtroom dramas that defined recent European cinema (notably Saint Omer and the last Palme d'Or winner The Anatomy of a Fall) is a journey to the secret chambers of perversion and to our intimate bonds with all sorts of obscure networks while taking the form of a chilling thriller that explores the relationship between the pursuit of truth and the search for identity, which can only lead to the deepest of abysses. From the very first minute, a tense, almost erotic atmosphere is constructed using the simplest of materials as the film follows a juror in the trial of a famous artist accused of three femicides. Resembling an angel of death with a riveting presence or a contemporary Themis ensnared in the dark web, the protagonist, working as a model, undergoes a series of transformations and shifts in perspective. She senses an inherent drive to uncover the truth but gradually descends into a state of paranoia within a maze of mirages that spans multiple media platforms. Admiration and desire transform into a display of brutality within a unique cinematic universe, leaving an indelible (red, urgent) imprint.
