A young woman returns to her native mountain village, searching for answers about her troubled childhood, but as she tries to uncover the truth, ancient legends begin to invade modern reality, leading the villagers to accuse her of witchcraft and murder. Αddressing the resurgence of ancient beliefs in modern-day Slovakia and how issues such as misogyny, xenophobia, and mass hysteria still prevail in our modern world, this is a captivating story of what it takes to be free when we choose to step off the beaten path, made by a courageous woman filmmaker previously devoted in negotiating the boundaries of reality through documentary film.

Tereza Nvotová

Tereza Nvotová (1988, Trnava, Czechoslovakia). Her debut film, Filthy, premiered at IFF Rotterdam and has won many awards at festivals worldwide. Tereza collaborated with various broadcasting companies, most notably HBO Europe, which who has coproduced her feature debut and two documentaries. Her latest HBO documentary The Lust for Power was critically acclaimed and has caused heated debate about populism and corruption in politics. She is currently working on her third feature Father, the TV miniseries Convictions, and The Nurse for AGBO production.
