Amidst a warm atmosphere, and with a delightful presentation by Cool Crips, Spiros Dadanidis and Grigoris Chrysikos stealing the show, the opening ceremony of the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival took place on Thursday, October 31st, in the packed Olympion theater.

Matt Dillon, one of the most iconic figures of contemporary American cinema, will also honor the 65th TIFF with a threefold presence. Matt Dillon will present his latest film Being Maria by Jessica Palud, where he portrays Marlon Brando, and will receive the Festival honorary Golden Alexander before the special screening of his directorial debut, City of Ghosts. Moreover, he will join the versatile Danish artist Jesper Just in the official opening of the visual installation Interfears, where he also stars.

On Tuesday November 5th, the night of the American presidential election, the shattering documentary Homegrown by Michael Premo will be screened at 8.30pm at Tonia Marketaki theater. The screening will be followed by a discussion featuring Nicolas Sevastakis, Professor at AUTh’s School of Political Sciences, the Festival’s artistic director Orestis Andreadakis, and writer, journalist and head of the Journalists' Union of Macedonia and Thrace Daily Newspapers Yannis Kotsifos.

Eight pioneering film creations compete for the Golden Alexander Immersive, accompanied by a 2,00-euro cash prize. The films of the Immersive competition section will be screened at a specially configured venue at Warehouse C (Port of Thessaloniki). The installation Intangible by Danish artist and designer Carl Emil Carlsen will be showcased out of competition at the Guardpost at the entrance of the Port. The working hours for the films and the installation will be from 1pm to 9pm.
