Thought-provoking, seat-gripping and up-to-the-minute, Greek documentaries draw their strength from personal testimonies and narrations, and reflect all social turbulences and dynamics of our times, taking center stage at the 28th TiDF.

Thessaloniki Film Festival gives the opportunity to four producers from Greece, to travel to the top industry event, the European Film Market (EFM) of the Berlin Film Festival, in order to promote their work.

The opening film of the 28th TiDF is the timely documentary "Ask E. Jean", which will celebrate its international premiere in Thessaloniki, in the presence of director Ivy Meeropol.

One of the most renowned Greek directors of all times, the great Costa Gavras will be present at Olympion, to present his legendary film Ζ (1969), on Sunday February 15th, at 11.30am, in a screening with a free admission for the city's audience (on a first-come-first-served basis).

TFF celebrates Valentine’s Day with an unforgettable cinematic love story, in a special screening that holds a wonderful surprise for the audience.

The 28th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival hosts a grand tribute to archives titled “All the world’s memory”, which will run through various pillars of this year’s edition, from film screenings and open discussions all the way to the Festival’s spot and editions.

AGORA, the most active and vibrant documentary Industry Event of Southeastern Europe is returning with new synergies and awards, having consolidated its status as a meeting point and contact hub between documentary professionals from all over the world, offering support to the documentary genre throughout the different stages of production. The ever familiar image of the imposing cranes in the port of Thessaloniki is reimagined through the work of Alexandros Psychoulis, which will feature across this year’s edition.

We are delighted to kick off the announcements for the 28th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, which will take place from 5 to 15 March 2026. We present five compelling documentaries dedicated to notable and renowned personalities.

The ever familiar image of the imposing cranes in the port of Thessaloniki is reimagined through the work of Alexandros Psychoulis, which will feature across this year’s edition. In the artist’s own words: “I grew up facing the port of Volos, gazing from my balcony at the huge cranes I would later come across at the Port of Thessaloniki. I grew up waiting for the moment when the cranes’ claws emerged from the ships’ holds, hauling up and revealing part of their innards, much like documentaries draw a fragment from life, suspending it briefly before the viewers’ eyes.”

SMART7, the network of like-minded European film festivals supported by Creative Europe MEDIA, completed the third phase of their workshop program dedicated to festival organisers. With a focus on sustainable human resources, well-being and mental health, the two-day event took place in Madrid, Spain December 2-3, and was open to every festival organiser.

Within the framework of the TIFF66, the remarkable Greek filmmaker, Yorgos Tsemberopoulos, delivered an exciting masterclass, titled “The Director in the Role of the Midwife,” on Saturday, November 8th, at the Pavlos Zannas theater.

The Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival invites podcasters from Greece and abroad to submit their works at the Podcast Section of the 28th TiDF (05-15/03/2026). Submission deadline: January 12th, 2026.

The discussion “Smarter Sets: Technology in the Service of a Greener Industry” took place on Wednesday, November 4, at the Event Hall of the Thessaloniki Music Center, as part of the 66th TIFF’s Agora Talks. The panel, moderated by journalist Theodoris Georgakopoulos, featured Bassam Alasad (Producer, Cultural Organizer, Climate Storytelling and Production Consultant – Greener Screen), George Chatzivasileiou (PhD, Philosophy of AI, Author and Documentary Director), and Emma Doxiadi (Filmmaker, Sustainability Coordinator – Everybodies).

The discussion “Do it Right: From Concept to the Festival Circuit” took place on Wednesday, November 5, as part of the Agora Talks at the 66th TIFF. Addressing his opening remarks, Thanos Stavropoulos, Manager of Agora, warmly welcomed the participants and the audience, expressing his gratitude towards the Municipality of Thessaloniki for hosting the event at the Thessaloniki Music Center.
