Osman, a greedy villager, decides to a dam a river crossing his land, to prevent water from flowing downhill to his neighbors’ crops. Hashan, his younger and gentle brother, warns him that this will turn the village against him. However, as Osman insists, Hasan and his lover, Bahar, are forced to submit to his will. The first major international success of Turkish cinema and winner of the Golden Bear, Dry Summer is a study on dark human instincts, under the glittering Aegean sun that inflames the passions.

Metin Erksan
Metin Erksan (1929–2012) was a prolific filmmaker, directing 42 titles, 29 of which were based on his own scripts. He studied History of Art at the Istanbul University and started very early on in life collaborating as film critic in several newspapers and magazines. In the 1950s he shot his first social realistic films, but he started to develop his own style in the 1960s. In 1964, Metin Erksan won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. From 1970 on he directed several films for television.
