Rams

A wonderful film with a Scandinavian soul, made from the simplest raw materials by the director Grimur Hakonarson. Due to their stubbornness, two brothers haven’t spoken to each other for forty years, despite the fact that they live in neighboring farms in a remote valley in Iceland. Their world is their sheep stock. When a ram is infected by a disease, the whole area is seized by fear. Black humor alternates with drama in a film where the narrative pace is synchronized to the pace of nature, allowing its characters to breathe. The film praises the bonds between humans and animals, and particularly those that evolve in isolated areas; while at the same time it portrays, in an original way, the relationships that flourish in smaller communities, where the environment decisively defines the life factor.
