22nd TDF: Greek Premiere

The Haitian Revolution (1791–1804) against French colonialism, led by Toussaint Louverture, who was arrested and imprisoned by Bonaparte’s army, is regarded as the only successful slave revolt in history, giving birth to the first independent nation in the Americas. Flash forward to today, through a transcendental journey from the French National Archives to the frozen landscapes of Toussaint’s prison in the Jura Mountains, all the way to modern-day Haiti, where a group of young actors translates into Kreyol a play on Louverture’s life. History, sacrifice, and grandeur are enshrined in nature and in art: a collective legacy of resistance against every form of tyranny.
