Matías, an ailing orphan boy who has lost pigmentation in his skin, is quarantined by his classmates at a rural primary school in the state of Michoacán, Mexico. The soothing words and presence of famous writer Marco Bellatin (who appears in the film) offers a healing prospect to this tormented youth. A shape-shifting docufiction that beguilingly drifts into the realm of the oneiric. Enigmatic and deceptively playful in tone, it boldly transforms the mundane into fantasy, acting as a mystic meditation on the double-edged nature and childhood and navigating us through the notions of cleansing and rebirth.

Nicolás Pereda
Nicolas Pereda is a filmmaker whose work explores the everyday through fractured and elliptical narratives using fiction and documentary tools. He often collaborates with the theater collective Lagartijas tiradas al sol and actress Teresita Sánchez. His work has been the subject of more than 30 retrospectives worldwide in venues such as Anthology Film Archive, Pacific Film Archive, Jeonju International Film Festival and TIFF Cinematheque. He has also presented his films in most major international film festivals including Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Locarno, and Toronto, as well as in galleries and museums like the Reina Sofía in Madrid, the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Guggenheim and MoMA in New York. In 2010 he was awarded the Premio Orizzonti at the Venice Film Festival.

Gabino Rodríguez
Multi-awarded Mexican actor Gabino Rodríguez has appeared in more than thirty feature films, working alongside directors Nicolás Pereda, Raya Martin, Diego Luna, and Cary Fukunaga. He is the founder of the collective art ensemble Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol, whose work primarily focuses on the interaction between simple people’s memories and the official recording of history.
