Ruth works in a neuroscience lab, but paradoxically she’s more interested in metaphysics than biology. She’s part of an extremely conservative Christian family, who reads the Bible literally in return for security and protection. However, her constructed reality is torn apart when her former lover is released from jail after 20 years, after he served his sentence for a crime which – according to Ruth – he never committed. A transcendental film that doesn’t give easy answers but rather poses its question to each and every one of us: What – and why – do you believe in?

Simon Jaquemet

Simon Jaquemet was born in 1978. He grew up on a farm near Basel in Switzerland. He studied film directing at the Zurich University of the Arts. He wrote and directed his diploma short film The Fortress (Die Burg) and two more shorts: Block and Laura’s Party, which participated in more than 30 international Festivals. He also specialised in directing music videos which won several national awards including «most aired video of the year» and the Edi Swiss Commercials award. Simon’s first feature film CHRIEG premiered at the San Sebastian International Film Festival and won several Awards including the prestigious Max Ophüls Preis 2015.
