BLACK BOX

Greece 2013 70 DigiBeta Color

Film description

Black Box is a feature-length documentary-dance film about the 2012 “Open Studio” performance at Greece’s State School of Dance. In the performances shown, the dancers do not simply dance; they speak, they sing, they cry, they fall in and out of love. The teaching process and the arduous effort of the dancers are presented through a dialogue between dance and dance theater. This verite-style film avoids narration, casting the body and the dance in the leading role. The film follows the rehearsals and performances of several choreographies, including: Appalachian Spring by Martha Graham, Old Man’s Dream by Tono Lachky,White Noise by Constantinos Rigos, Folly by Christine Gouzelis and Paul Blackman, and Maria by Alexis Fousekis.
