Passenger of the legendary ship “Mataroa”, filmmaker of the battles of the Civil War at Grammos-Vitsi, political refugee in Tashkent, student of Mikhail Romm in Moscow, director of seven feature films and three short films in Russia, main representative of the Law about Cinematography in 1986… Manos lived in the heart of the 20th century, the fire of the revolution and the great expectations. This monograph, edited by Yorgos Bramos, with rare photo archive, is filled not with typical critical texts but with personal confessions, for the fellow traveller, or the friend (this word prevails) in the great journey of cinema, history and politics: Alkis Zei, Kostas Alavanos, Naoym Arntasnikov, Galina Sergova, Giannis Bakogiannopoulos, Yorgos Bramos, Fotos Lamprinos, Lefteris Ksanthopoulos and Theo Angelopoulos, who also writes in the introductory note: “Many years had to pass before we discover his films. We discovered a solid, lyrical cinema based on the journey of his generation and the memory of a Greece that had visions…”. A publication which honors his memory and pays tribute to a rare person.
