Instructions for sun protection

  • Avoid sunbathing and stay in shady and cool places away from crowded areas.
  • Avoid walking for long periods or running under the sun.
  • Prefer light, comfortable, and light-colored clothes made of natural materials to facilitate body ventilation and sweat evaporation. Choose a hat that ensures good head ventilation. Wear black or dark-colored sunglasses with a special coating that protects against sun glare.
  • Ensure your diet consists of light and small meals, emphasizing οn fruits and vegetables. Limit fats.
  • Drink plenty of fluids (water and fruit juices). If you sweat a lot, add salt to your food. Avoid alcoholic beverages.
  • Take lukewarm showers during the day and if needed, place wet clothes/towels on your head and neck.
  • People suffering from chronic illnesses (respiratory, cardiovascular, etc.) or taking medication, consult your doctor for special instructions.
  • Avoid long journeys with public transport when the heat is very high.

For infants and children

  • Dress them as lightly as possible. Make sure their hands and feet are free and not wrapped in diapers.
  • Make sure they do not stay under the sun after swimming in the sea and that they always wear a hat.
  • Besides milk, it is recommended to give them other fluids. Consult the pediatrician.
  • For older children, ensure they drink plenty of fluids (water and fruit juices) and they eat more vegetables and fruits and fewer fats.

For bathers

  • Do not stay in the sun for too long, especially during the first baths, as there is a risk of sunburn and sunstroke.
  • Get out of the sea immediately if you feel chills or dizziness.
  • Do not swim on a full stomach. Ideally, you should wait at least 3 hours after your last meal before entering the sea. Similarly, avoid entering the water on an empty stomach.
  • Do not consume alcoholic beverages before swimming.
  • Do not stray far from the beach. Ideally, swim parallel to the shore.
  • Avoid diving in areas where you do not know the depth or the bottom's formation.
  • If you get a cramp in the water, lean forward, take a deep breath, and submerge your head in the water, moving your legs to float and stretch the muscle that hurts in the opposite direction of the contraction.
